2014-The Voice
Since I’ve worked on the radio for a decade, this may read a little strange, but this is the year I intend to let my voice be heard.
Obviously, I don’t mean my larynx vibrations. Instead, I pledge this year to write the stories that I want to tell, to create the collaborations I want to have, to give my opinion, respectfully, and to speak my truth, without fear.
But I realize that to let my voice be heard, I need to give something up. (smoking) No! Seriously, I need to give up the tendency I have of letting other people’s opinions of me affect how I live and create. Because if there is one major block to speaking your truth, it’s worrying about what others will do about it.
And you know what’s tough? I know that the only way I can stop being concerned about what others think of me, is to stop having an opinion about them.
Seriously, I have to get real… how many times have I complained (both out loud and in my mind) about how people judge my rather non-traditional lifestyle–WHILE AT THE SAME TIME, I JUDGED THEIR LIFE RIGHT BACK AT THEM!? More often than I care to admit.
So this year, if I want to let my voice be heard, then I must fully hear others’.
I know it won’t be easy but it’s a a goal I’m happy to work towards. I figure the success of this one is in the continued pursuit.
What do you think?
Great goal, Granted Actor. I can absolutely relate. I’m actually working with a life coach for actors right now who focuses on things like this. One of my favorite things she says is, “You can chose to be happy, or you can chose to be right.” So often, I automatically cling to “being right,” instead of letting things go and allowing myself to be a better mood.
Feel free to check out her website: http://courtneyriouxcoaching.com/ There’s a great free audio coaching you can get by signing up for her newsletter. I’m also a huge fan of her blog.
Best of luck to you! Keep us posted on how it goes =)
Hi Chicago Actor, I say that to myself a lot “choose to be happy or choose to be right” I love that. Thanks for the tip. I also work with Dallas Travers, as I think you do, who helps a lot with mindset. Happy 2014!
Love this! 🙂
Thanks Kate!
