I’ll Have My People Call Your People.
I recently decided that my 3+ year old phone was just not cutting it anymore. Everyone around me was upgrading to iPhones or Androids, and I was still trying to make my way in the world with a regular, call-and-text-only phone. I was beginning to feel left behind in the dust. People expect to be in constant contact! When someone e-mails me, they expect to hear back immediately, and considering I have a survival job and had no access to e-mail on my phone – I was screwed!
My phone plan did not include internet or media of any kind, I was paying too much for a text package that ran out too quickly, and it was becoming too much of a hassle! So I decided it was time for an upgrade! I ended up buying a reconditioned Samsung Galaxy Precedent for a great price! Plus, I purchased an unlimited talk, text, and media plan for a reasonable price as well.
I never realized what an important tool a phone can be for an actor/artist! These are some of the features I have been loving:
- I can check my e-mail wherever I am.
- I can look up songs for my band on youtube and search lyrics.
- I can download and read through sides/scripts.
- I can submit for projects through multiple casting submission websites.
- I can use the USB chord to convert my phone into an external hard drive and have things such as my schedule, band demo tracks, and resume right at my fingertips.
- I can use the GPS feature to navigate my way to auditions, gigs, etc.
- I can sync my schedule with the calendar app and keep track of all my projects.
I am really pleased with my phone, and it has been one of the best moves I have made to accomplish my New Years resolution of improving my marketing skills. The only down side? I can’t find a Doctor Who case for this model…. 😀
I hope if you are considering an upgrade, this post was helpful. I procrastinated upgrading my phone for a while, thinking I didn’t need all the “bells & whistles”. However, I never realized how helpful a tool it would be!
I had the same phone for 3+ years till labor day weekend last week. Then I got a ridiculously discounted IPhone 4S (since I didn’t realize the 5 was about to come out). It made my life 10 times better. No question.
One of my favorite apps for auditions is a mini-piano keyboard app. I can play my starting note before I go in to sing!
