Senior Year?!
Most of everything I own is packed up and waiting to be driven back to college with me in the next few days. Finally the calendar pages have turned to August of my senior year.
Right now, my thought process tends to consist of “Shit shit shit, I’m a senior—shit…how?” It feels like I’m just starting to get into something bigger with the learning process and now I’m supposed to be handed a piece of paper that says I’m good and done with education. That’s not true but judging by the number of adults asking me what I’m going to do after college now, it feels that way.
Until they hand me my diploma though, I have nine beautiful months and my calendar is already filling up. Instead of answering the question “What are you doing after you graduate?”, I’m going to focus on what I’m doing BEFORE I graduate:
- Directing. This semester, I’m taking the Directing class—I’ve been looking forward to this since freshman year and my books just arrived! Plus, I will be directing a one act in the end of semester festival.
- MORE stage combat! Yes, this wasn’t just a passing fad. I’m taking Medieval combat this semester (broadsword and more quarterstaff techniques) and hoping to continue on in the spring. With any luck, by the time I graduate, I will hold certifications in most of the approved weapons.
- The Vagina Monologues. I’m an ardent and fierce devotee of this show, having performed in it twice now but this year, I’m actually organizing our campus production—someone has to assemble the eight foot vagina model we put on display and sell the chocolate vagina and penis pops.
- “The Me and Tom Show”. For our senior project (TBD), a friend and I want to work together to create our own potential show. Who knows where this will go?
- The unexpected. Who knows what shows I might be cast in? Will I get back into stage managing? What if I finish writing a script and actually get it done? What do the tarot cards hold for me this year? How many nights will I stay up late with my roommates having movie marathons and drinks in our living room?
That’s more than enough projects to get me started off on my senior year—hopefully, more than enough to inspire lots of blog posts in the coming months as well. Countdown to graduation in 284 days!
Have a blessed senior year!
