Hi, My Name Is…The Redheaded Actress!
Well, actually…that’s not exactly true. My name is Kate, but for pretty much as long as I’ve been alive, I’ve been defined by both my red hair and my desire to perform. So I guess you could say that The Redheaded Actress suits me just as well as Kate.
Who am I? Well, I’m just another one of you hardworking, creative, driven, talented, passionate types out there reading this right now, who loves this crazy showbiz career that we’ve chosen. And I happen to have also gotten pretty fond of blogging, after writing on my own New York City blog, Diary of a Manhattan Actress, for almost three years, and also having just finished a stint of intense wedding blogging as Mrs. Star over at Weddingbee. So when a love of acting, a partiality to blogging, and a desire to create a new kind of showbiz community intersect, we get — The Green Room!
I received my B.F.A. in Theatre Arts from Hofstra University almost three years ago (my, how time flies!), and have been hustling to get my acting career in the city started ever since. I’ve performed in over twenty New York City productions, filmed on at least a dozen sets, had two rounds of headshots taken by two different photographers, am freelancing with two agents, have auditioned at most of the studios/film schools/small theatre companies across the city, participated in many “meet and greet” workshops, attended dozens of Broadway shows to “study,” and started to flirt with union membership.
In short, I’m out there doing just what you are every day — whatever I can to claw my way up the ladder. And I think we should compare notes. And support each other. Because I’ve never been one of those actors who doesn’t want you to know what I’m singing or which headshot photographer I love. If you agree, then you’ve come to the right place.
I promise to share what I’ve done right and wrong, and what I continue to learn. Will you?
She has a lot to share with the entertainment world guys! So proud of you : ) great first post
I meant (about the entertainment world)
Great! I love it, Kate!! We can always use more community in the arts.
Love it, and want to join. We have the same idea in mind, to bring the heart and community back into theatre. Great stuff!!!
I think “The Green Room” is a splendid idea! š Actors should be there for one another and support each other in any way possible. We’re all in this together!
