Age 6, my life began ….

September 3, 2013

You know that moment where theatre becomes your whole life? It happened to me at age 6 when I first stepped onto stage with a training academy. My whole life has basically escalated from there; through many twists and turns, ups and downs, but somehow I’ve come out the other side and still have a passion for theatre.

I’m the Tattooed Theatre Student otherwise known as Heather, 19 years old and live in the UK. The first UK-based Green Room blogger, I think that’s quite an achievement! I’m just about to start a degree in Stage Management at Rose Bruford College down in Kent. I’m independent, hardworking and quite outspoken if needed. I love my friends, family, pets and everyone that’s helped me along the way. Now how did I get here?

As mentioned I started performing at age 6 and performed my last show a mere 5 months ago. I started at Helen O’Grady Drama Academy and then moved to Vale Royal Juniors at age 13, who I stayed with till this summer. I performed in 6 shows and then decided to quit performing but came back as a volunteer which gave me the opportunity to stage crew a production of Oliver! (yes, the exclamation mark is required)
Through that production I got offered a job at the local pantomime as a stage hand however this soon became LX operator when they realised I probably wouldn’t be able to lift the sets! When we moved venue I got given Sound operator as well. Definitely chucked in the deep end but it was worth it!
At this point I was studying A Levels in Theatre Studies, Performance Studies and Psychology and was applying for a drama degree, however worked out that wasn’t right for me and backstage work was actually what I wanted to go into. I applied for a BTEC Course at Liverpool Community College which was the most amazing experience of my life, and gave me the opportunity and confidence to apply to drama schools, which is now where I’m heading. Okay so that’s the brief history sorted!

My nickname meaning? Pretty obvious, I have 4 tattoos already and plan to get more. My first was actually theatre based; drama masks surrounded by ‘All the World’s a Stage’. Plus I’m a theatre student – it was a pretty obvious choice.

I’m so excited to get involved in this blog and have an outlet for all my theatre related experiences. I want to be able to share past experiences, future experience, opinions as well as things I have found useful along the way. And maybe, just maybe someone will get inspired into this beautiful (and slightly crazy) industry! (:
