They’re Back!! – Whose Line Is It Anyway 2013 Review

The show where everything’s made up and the points don’t matter.

When I first heard that Whose Line Is Anyway was coming back- I was so excited! I used to watch that show all the time as a kid. When I was 10, I was cast in my first New York play. Every night, my Mom and I would get home around midnight, and I would immediately turn on the TV to watch the reruns of Who’s Line that came on at that time.

My first concern when I began seeing ads for the show was that the cast had changed. I always enjoyed watching Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles, and Wayne Brady. Were they going to change the cast? Would it be the same without the original cast? Luckily, I didn’t have to worry long as I began seeing all of their familiar faces on the commercials. I don’t think the show would have the charm with a new cast! The only cast member that did not return to the new season is Drew Carey- the former host. This season, comedian Aisha Tyler has taken over the role of host on Whose Line.

So last night, I tuned in at 8pm EST to watch the season premier! I was definitely not disappointed. They did all the old skits I remember- Helping Hands, Living Scenery, Let’s Make A Date, etc. They also incorporated some fun new skits- such as acting out a scene using only the items found in 2 purses volunteered by women in the audience, and lying on a screen and acting out a scene where they appeared to be standing rather than lying down. The cast pulled their usual crazy antics, and if felt like the show had never been off the air.

The show did have some new, up-to-date features as well. There was a pretty obvious use of hashtags during the show. They appeared during every skit. Not sure if I was crazy about that idea, but I do understand why they did it- to get people actively talking about the show. They also had some fresh guest stars- Lauren Cohan from The Walking Dead and Kevin McHale from Glee. I really enjoyed watching both of the guest stars do their thing!

Lauren Cohan was cute and bubbly. She had everyone in stitches after her Zombie-butt-kicking instincts “kicked” in, and she lightly pushed Wayne Brady to the floor with her foot during a skit featuring Wayne Brady as a transforming zombie. Wayne’s reaction was hilarious! He scrambled to his feet, frantically running off the stage.

The humble and (dare I say) adorable Kevin McHale was great fun as well! In a Helping Hands skit, Ryan shot popcorn from his mouth into Kevin’s! Kevin actually caught some and ate it, saying something like “I hope you’re not getting sick!” He also did a great job doing an improv Gospel song with the amazing Wayne Brady.

I did miss seeing Drew Cary, though my roommate did not. We both still enjoyed the new host, Aisha Tyler. She is enjoyable to watch and keeps it fun! I felt everyone did a great job, and I’m looking forward to seeing the next episode. The actors on this show have always been a big inspiration to me- it’s amazing to watch them improv!

5000 points to the whole cast!
