New Year New Goals
So my birthday has recently passed (yay!).
Every year I treat my birthday the way most people treat new years. I reflect a lot about the previous year, and start making goals for the next year. So here’s a list of goals I’m making for myself for next year.
– Direct Five Full Length Productions (at least)
– Get my first Regional Theatre Credit
– Find new theatres, theatre companies, and theatre festivals to get involved in.
– Do more Dramaturgy work (the more I do Dramaturgical work for plays, the more I love it).
– Assist a professional Dramaturg.
– Work on at least one play that’s one of my favorite plays of all time (see The Goals List)
– Do work at a well-known theatre (whether it’s for a show or as an intern, Off-Broadway or Regional).
Even if I don’t make them all happen, I’m now only another year into my mid-20’s so I have plenty of time to make all my life goals happen one day. As long as I keep actively working towards the goal (or more importantly: keep actively working on shows I’m passionate about), then I’ll be fine. But making a goals list is always helpful so that way you have a guide for your artistic growth and possibly even your growth as a human being.
It’s always good to have multiple times of year where you check in with your goals. I always start out very ambitiously in January, but by the time I get to my birthday in August I find myself needing to refocus and refine.
